Whether it’s climate change, food shortages, or economic inequality, almost all the world’s most pressing problems require STEM (science, tech, engineering, and math)-based solutions. Yet only a tiny fraction of our population has the STEM knowledge to even be at the table solving them. So it’s no surprise we haven’t solved these challenges yet.

To solve them, we need all of tomorrow’s problem-solvers to be equipped with STEM skills and inspiration. And tomorrow’s problem-solvers need excellent STEM teachers today to guide them. In his 2011 State of the Union, President Obama issued a call for adding 100,000 excellent STEM teachers to our nation’s schools over the coming decade.

100Kin10 emerged in 2011 to activate the country to respond to that urgent call and to accelerate and coordinate the resulting effort. With 28 founding partners, today 100Kin10 brings together over 300 of the nation’s top academic institutions, nonprofits, foundations, companies, and government agencies to train and retain 100,000 excellent STEM teachers over 10 years. With those organizations taking the lead, we aim to fuel the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.

Our approach is unique: More than just a coalition, 100Kin10 enlists the right mix of diverse and powerful organizations to make strong commitments; amplifies their capacity and impact through collaboration, learning, and funding; and catalyzes solutions to large-scale problems by leveraging the strength of the network and its resources. Together, this leads to the systemic change needed to overcome the challenges of providing all students with high-quality STEM learning.

100Kin10 has experienced significant success to date: Partner organizations are on track to meet the full 100,000 STEM teacher goal by 2021. They have already trained more than 30,000 new, excellent STEM teachers in the first four years of the effort and have supported tens of thousands more to improve their skills and stay in the classroom longer. Alongside that, we have grown by ten-fold, spurred dozens of collaborations, launched two intensive human-centered design fellowships focused on major challenges, and raised 90ドル million through an innovative funders’ collaborative.

ABFE is a membership-based philanthropic organization that advocates for responsive and transformative investments in Black communities. Partnering with foundations, nonprofits and individuals, ABFE provides its members with professional development and technical assistance resources that further the philanthropic sector’s connection and responsiveness to issues of equality, diversity and inclusion. Established in 1971 as the Association of Black Foundation Executives, the all-volunteer organization was credited with many of philanthropy’s early gains in diversity. It since has evolved into a fully staffed, influential network. In 2013, the organization shed its descriptor and adopted the simpler ABFE (ab-fee) to better reflect its broadening membership.

There are 28 million people in the United States that self-identify as limited English proficiency LEP (DHS), and there are 37.5 million people in the US that report trouble hearing (NIH). This means 65.5 million people not able to quickly contact 911. When talking out loud is not safe, accents, or those with speech disabilities, speaking to 911 dispatchers may not be possible.

Current text to 911 technology stack does not receive an accurate location when people text 911. No technology solutions are currently in place that allow limited English proficiency users to quickly communicate with English speaking 911 dispatchers. Information about their location and type of emergency can be lost in translation.

AccesSOS provides a progressive web app solution (any phone that has a web browser can text to 911 using our link, with no need to download an app), available in multiple languages and English, allowing people to quickly send the dispatcher their emergency location, and the type of help they need.

Accord Alliance promotes comprehensive and integrated approaches to care that enhance the health and well-being of people and families affected by differences of sex development (DSD).

Adalah Justice Project (AJP) seeks to shift American attitudes and policy concerning Israel/Palestine towards a human rights approach that guarantees historic justice and equality for Palestinians.

AJP began as the US Program of Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, and the two organizations cooperate closely to advance a shared vision of full human rights for all people living in historic Palestine, the end of the occupation, and historical justice for all Palestinians.

Adalah means “Justice” in Arabic.
