One of the most important items in the parerga is Peter Giles's tetrastich in the Utopian language, which emphasizes the Utopians' willingness to change and learn (114 NCE2).
(7) Giles takes credit in his letter to Busleiden for conveying from Hythloday the Utopian alphabet and a couple of snatches of Utopian verse which he has transmitted and translated into Latin (114 NCE2, which reproduces the alphabet and tetrastich but not the Anemolian hexastich; Yale ed., 20-1).
What Peter Alien says about the the appended materials being "deliberately designed to control the reader's interpretation of the text" is borne out somewhat crudely by the letters of Busleiden and particularly Bude but much more pointedly by Giles's tetrastich translated from the Utopian language (most suggestively by More himself in the second letter to Giles--but that will be treated later).
