As for cosmic scales, there was shown in [4] that the structure of quasars can contain very long open vortex tubes with opposite currents carrying charges of different signs at the place of their rupture that resembles a kind of a
superatom. Vortex tubes consist of vortex threads, which, supposedly, can be transformed into compact structural units--superphotons emitted by a quasar.
A unified view of ligand-protected gold clusters as
superatom complexes.
Petek, "The
superatom states of fullerenes and their hybridization into the nearly free electron bands of fullerites," ACS Nano, vol.
found that empty [C.sub.28] fullerene behaves as a hollow tetravalent
superatom with tetrahedral symmetry [28].
Bose, a contemporary of Albert Einstein, is known for ' Bose- Einstein Condensate' -- an unusual state of matter when virtually all atoms in an ultracold gas condense into a '
superatom' that behaves like a single entity.
The atoms lost their individuality and began to behave as a
superatom. Called a Bose-Einstein condensate, the exotic material had been predicted in the 1920s by Albert Einstein and Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose.
Unpaired electrons, however, will make an atom, or a
superatom, more likely to react with others in an attempt to fill its orbitals and become stable.
Working steadily for the past six years, the Colorado scientists used that cooling principle to create the
Superatom. They supercooled atoms of the element rubidium to the coldest temperature ever--nearly -273 [degrees] C (-460 [degrees] F), also known as absolute zero (see "thermometer," left).
Because atoms in the condensate behave as a single, coherent quantum "
superatom," such a ring doesn't speed up or slow down gradually--it jumps between different speeds, much like a blender would if it could change settings instantaneously.
Washington, June 16 (ANI): Scientists have discovered a 'magnetic
superatom', which one day may be used to create molecular electronic devices for the next generation of faster computers with larger memory storage.
They found that the 102-atom gold cluster was a "
superatom" with a core of 79 gold atoms arranged into a truncated decahedron.
