This reduction in the physical space can result in the reduction in the [k.sub.root], since the quantity of thick and more
suberized roots would be bigger and could contribute to the elevation of the root dry mass and root volume.
Some galls outer epidermal pavement cells may be
suberized (Kraus et al., 2002) or metacutinized (Oliveira & Isaias, 2010b; Formiga et al, 2011), protecting the gall from desiccation (Isaias et al., 2013).
The criteria used to consider a root as new (not
suberized) was the adventitious color, as older roots presented a brownish and
suberized aspect.
It was found that the production of a thick
suberized endodermis, and cell wall lignification in root tissues exposed to Cd source could restrict the Cd loading into the xylem by limiting its radial apoplasmic movement (Lux et al., 2011).
The adults feed on leaves and twig tissue which they scarify longitudinally, leaving a characteristic scar of
suberized tissue (Aguilera 1988; Parra et al.
Short cells occur as silica bodies (Figures 1D, F, K--arrow) or
suberized cells (cork cells--arrowhead) (Figure 1A)--sometimes as silico-suberose couples in the intercostal zone (e.g.
Moreover, some layers like endodermis and exodermises become more lignified and
suberized.Soil salinity has a significant effect on the pulses.
However, some characteristics were not confirmed, like: cuticle lack; spongy parenchyma lack; sclereid sheath; exocarp becoming strongly
suberized, collapsed and sometimes separated from mesocarp; mesocarp constituted by a middle layer, unistratified of small parenchymatous cells, containing prismatic crystals; and the inner layer of endocarp
suberized.
Metcalfe [5, page 539] even reported a culm endodermis with "
suberized walls" in O.

The velamen is formed by dead compactly arranged cells with
suberized walls.
