The strength of evidence for MSR relative to control treatment was strong and comparable for quinidine, disopyramide, flecainide, propafenone, and
sotalol. Most important, despite the high prevalence of AF the data for the relative efficacy of the antiarrhythmic agents for both conversion and MSR are sparse and inconclusive.
Allowed medications included amiodarone, disopyramide, flecainide, moricizine, procainamide, prop afenone, quinidine,
sotalol, and a combination of these drugs.
Oxygen uptake kinetics and cardiopulmonary performance in lone atrial fibrillation and the effects of
sotalol. Chest 1997; 111:934-40.
The double-blind Prevention of Atrial Fibrillation After Cardioversion (PAFAC) trial involved 761 patients randomized to quinidine plus verapamil or to the class III agent
sotalol following successful direct current cardioversion.
Study design and validity This study used decision and cost-effectiveness analyses to examine treatment strategies that included combinations of cardioversion, antiarrhythmic therapy with quinidine,
sotalol, or amiodarone, and anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy.
STOCKHOLM -- Quinidine plus verapamil was better than
sotalol alone for preventing recurrent atrial fibrillation following cardioversion in a controlled trial with 848 patients.
Her medications included thyroid hormone,
sotalol, warfarin sodium, digoxin, furosemide, potassium, and iron supplements.
Drugs most often used are those in classes IA, IC, III, and beta blockers, and include procainamide, propafanone, flccainide, amiodarone hydrochloride, nadolol, and
sotalol.
She was given flecainide 100 mg twice daily and
sotalol 80 mg twice daily, and became pregnant during therapy.[16] Both patients gave birth to normal babies with no congenital anomalies or changes in the neonatal electrocardiograms or hemodynamics.[15,16]
Police said that the killer had used five different drugs including ajmaline,
sotalol, lidocaine, amiodarone and calcium chloride.
Sotalol was initiated as an antiarrhythmic instead of amiodarone.
Arrhythmias were controlled with drugs, including propranolol,
sotalol, and amiodarone (4).
