The USS Saginaw, a wooden
side-wheel steamer, served in Pacific and Asian waters between 1860 and 1870, during the period of the Opium Wars, the Taiping Rebellion, transportation of Confederate sailors to Central America, and the growing presence of American naval forces in Hawaii, before it finally sank in 1870 near a remote coral reef.

side-wheel steamer was found in the summer of 2013 by veteran shipwreck hunter David Trotter of Canton and the Undersea Research Associates.
