Multiple cranial nerve involvement is usually considered as an indicator of basilar meningitis and is thought to be a result of compression caused by oedematous brain or meningeal inflammation resulting in
perineuritis. Third, fourth, sixth, and seventh nerves are the commonest nerves to get affected [3] and the involvement of the hypoglossal nerve is very rarely described in literature.
First described in 1883, optic
perineuritis is an uncommon orbital inflammatory diseaseinvolving theoptic nervesheath; although it tends to mimic demyelinating optic neuritis, there are some clinical features that help to distinguish the two [1].
This resolved two weeks later and was postulated to be due to
perineuritis [2].
Perineuritis causes intense pain along the nerve distribution.
(13) in a study on neuro-ophthalmic findings in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome reported abnormalities in the form of
perineuritis, papilledema, papillitis, retrobulbar neuritis, and optic atrophy in about 6% of the patients.
Entre sus causas estan
perineuritis optica, neuropatia optica isquemica y procesos infiltrativos del nervio optico, como sarcoidosis.
Classically the infection produces a ring infiltrate and exquisitely painful radial
perineuritis [11], but in reality AK can present with a wide variety of clinical findings and objective confirmation of the diagnosis can be elusive.
Typically, PNS-Lyme disease is associated with transverse myelitis and patchy multifocal axonal loss with epineural perivascular inflammatory infiltrates or
perineuritis [121-125].
Failure to locate worms may relate to the body site and/or killed worms, or host inflammatory response (i.e., meningitis and
perineuritis).
