The road map that Cabinet will be studying Tuesday seeks to bring in sorting at source - where households separate their own recyclable and
nonrecyclable garbage - and the creation of 25 landfills across the country to absorb refuse as part of a medium-term solution.
Dave Lewis, the chief executive of Tesco, said the retailer would "reserve the right not to list" products with too much
nonrecyclable packaging as it steps up its efforts in the war against single-use plastic.
He made the change to focus on EcoSlurps, with the mission to create products that help reduce the number of single-use plastics and
nonrecyclable coffee cups that end up in UK landfill sites every year.
Under the new approach, food waste will be collected every week, recyclable materials will be collected two weeks out of three, and
nonrecyclable materials will be collected once every three weeks.
The council began its crackdown in an attempt to tackle the number of green bins contaminated with
nonrecyclable waste such as food and nappies and to drive up recycling rates.
The supermarket is to sell fourpacks of Luxury Toilet Paper wrapped in paper, rather than
nonrecyclable plastic.
The Philippines on May 31 ended a dispute over trash with Canada after Ottawa took back 69 containers of
nonrecyclable waste that were illegally shipped to Manila in 2013 and 2014.
