2) and often retain the textures of magmatic rocks, - poikilophitic,
intersertal, for globular lavas, - hyalopilitic (Petrov, 1999).
Rarely, the groundmass seems to contain
intersertal glass.
The spilitic basalts have plagioclase, clinopyroxene and minor opaque minerals (titaniferous minerals) that have
intersertal texture.
These rocks show
intersertal to hyalo-microlitic porphyritic texture.
They have porphyritic texture with plagioclase phenocrystals (up to 10 %) in a subophitic to
intersertal groundmass.
In some areas, generally near contacts with the Baring Granite unit, quartz diorite has hiatal porphyritic texture with plagioclase phenocrysts 2 to 4 cm in length, set in a fine-grained
intersertal to intergranular matrix of augite, plagioclase, and quartz.
Most of the basalts are porphyritic and textures range from very fine-grained to very coarse-grained, using these terms in the volcanic sense (Table 1), and include ophitic, subophitic, intergranular and
intersertal varieties.
Groundmass textures are variably intergranular,
intersertal, vitrophyric, and hyalopilitic.
