Birmingham Optical will launch the Nidek GS-1
Gonioscope in October, which the equipment company predicts will be a "huge hit" for specialising in glaucoma diagnosis.
After obtaining informed consent from all the patients, a detailed evaluation including history, visual acuity, slit lamp examination, gonioscopy (using Zeiss 4 mirror
gonioscope), intraocular pressure (by Goldmann applanation tonometer), central corneal thickness by Ultrasound pachymetry (AccuPach), fields and dilated fundus examination were performed.
GSL is usually performed with the assistance of a
gonioscope. However, gonioscope-assisted GSL requires either a microscope or an eyeball to be tilted, and the quality of the image is affected by corneal edema.
The right cornea was placed with a
gonioscope (Ocular Instruments, Bellevue, Washington, USA) that was specially designed for monkeys.
Gonioscopy is an examination of the angle of anterior chamber by a special device called the
gonioscope. It helps in revealing the formation of goniosynechiae, inflammatory deposits, membrane formation, pigment deposits, neovascularization, foreign bodies & tumour cells and can also help to measure the angle width.
* Gonioscopy, a procedure in which the doctor examines the angle of the front portion of the eye with a slit lamp and a special lens called a
gonioscope lens.
