The transgender women deal with heterosexual men who are attracted to and eroticize them but cannot seem to treat them like real people.

The opening article by Shirley Jordan focuses on the sexualized female body in texts by Catherine Millet, Catherine Breillat, Anna Rozen, and Marie-Laure Dagoit, arguing for a corporeal specificity to female-authored texts that is used not to eroticize the text, but to undermine phallocentric constructions of female sexuality.

Yet the flashback scene does more than simply eroticize the female form in order to draw in audiences.

While the author, the tourists, and the inhabitants of Savannah eroticize and foreground its natural beauty to the extent to which the city becomes a depraved female character, they also eroticize and marginalize homosexual and black characters.

In discussing (and, for me, defending) the book, we needed to swap its subversion for moderation: the book is a warning, an ironic urge to forgo the dual urges to mechanize the self and eroticize the auto.

At the same time, the "diabolical bawling and twanging" so often passed off as music in our day has an equal power to degrade, eroticize, and desensitize.

Chapter Four's "Interracial Eroticism in Asian American Literature: Male Subjectivity and White Bodies" discusses the way that white female physicality has traditionally been seen as both a source of beauty and power for the male immigrant or ethnic writer (unlike female writers who do not eroticize interracial relationships in the same way).
