Disk Harrow

The basic design used a series of slightly cupped metal disks mounted a few inches from each other on a common axle. Until the end of the horse-drawn disk, axle bearings were made of an oil-soaked tough wood such as maple. Without precision dust seals, such bearings lasted much better in harsh and gritty work conditions than the metallic varieties.
