Specifically, we saw staining in the anterior uvea, mostly in the trabecular meshwork at the filtration angle (in 9/9 animals; Figure 2, panels A, D); in the iris, particularly in the pigmented epithelium along the posterior margin, as well as along the anterior margin (in 9/9 animals; Figure 2, panels A, F); and multifocally in the
ciliary body epithelium (in 7/9 animals; Figure 2, panels A, E).
Rate of filtration is influenced by BP in the
ciliary body capillaries and plasma oncotic pressure.
The proposed pathophysiological mechanism involves anticholinergic effects and a possible serotonergic mechanism due to the presence of 5-HT receptors in human eyes and their concentration in the mammalian
ciliary body and cornea.[1] The strong stimulation of serotonergic transmission could also account for the increase in IOP, as has been reported with other SSRIs.[1],[5] When stimulated by agonists, 5-HT receptors are responsible for relaxation of the sphincter muscle of the pupil and subsequent mydriasis.
Destruction of the
ciliary body using various methods is an option for the management of refractory glaucoma when conventional medical and or surgical modalities fail to adequately control intraocular pressure (IOP).
It tends to occur in myopic eyes which may have a slightly different anatomical relationship between the
ciliary body and the lens, resulting in the iris profile becoming concaved.
Their deposits on cornea,
ciliary body, lens, retina and choroid may lead to ocular side effects which are usually reversible upon discontinuation of drug.
A total of 30 min before the start and end of HD, iris thickness (IT) and
ciliary body thickness (CBT) were measured by UBM at 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 3 o'clock, and 9 o'clock positions; the average values of the four quadrants were used.
