Vitus Bering

1741 - Danish explorer Vitus Bering, on a mission sponsored by Russia, discovers Alaska.

Lang, a retired history professor, and Walker, a retired physician and map collector, collect primary sources like journal entries, book excerpts, maps, and drawings related to explorers of the maritime Pacific Northwest: Sebastian Vizcaino, Vitus Bering, Aleksei Chirikov, Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, Bruno de Hezeta, James Cook, Jean-Francois de Galaup, Alejandro Malaspina, George Vancouver, Robert Gray, Dionisio Alcala Galiano, and others, such as fur traders.

Vitus Bering Innovation Park is an incubator and has the "Business Creation and StartUp Programme." Its campus in Horsens has more than 2,500 international students and many international partners.

The Danish explorer Vitus Bering led expeditions to the Russian Far East and Alaska under the patronage of Peter the Great and his successors.
