American badgers (
Taxidea taxus) are mid-sized semi-fossorial mustelids and typically associate with open habitats, such as grasslands, shrub-steppe, or desert but also occur in forests, wetlands, and mountainous areas (Lindzey, 2003).
Since they do seem to be few and far between in our part of the country I thought I would bring you up to speed on "
Taxidea Taxus."
The American badger (
Taxidea taxus) is one of the largest members of the weasel family (Mustelidae) in North America, second only to the wolverine, and it's one of nine species of badgers found worldwide.
Common predators of sage-grouse nests or adults in the area included badgers
Taxidea taxus, common ravens Corvus corax, coyotes Canis latrans, bobcats Lynx rufus and golden eagles Aquila chrysaetos.

Ademas, existen poblaciones de tejon (
Taxidea taxus Baird) y zorra del desierto (Vulpes velox Say) como especies clave (CONABIO, 2013), destacando la presencia de colonias de perrito llanero (Cynomys mexicanus Merriam), especie endemica considerada en peligro de extincion segun la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 (DOF, 2010).
