(Biography) Mikhail Aleksandrovich (mixaˈil alɪkˈsandrəvitʃ). 1905–84, Soviet author, noted particularly for And Quiet flows the Don (1934) and The Don flows Home to the Sea (1940), describing the effect of the Revolution and civil war on the life of the Cossacks: Nobel prize for literature 1965
