Pitt 1
(pĭt), William First Earl of Chatham. Known as "Pitt the Elder." 1708-1778. British political leader and orator who directed his country's military effort during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763).
Pitt 2
(pĭt), William Second Earl of Chatham. Known as "Pitt the Younger." 1759-1806. British prime minister (1783-1801 and 1804-1806). He accomplished the Act of Union between Ireland and Britain (1800) but was unsuccessful in his efforts to achieve Catholic emancipation.
