Parthenium hysterophorus, an invasive weed specie commonly known as famine plant which damages crops production, livestock and human health due to its allelopathic (toxin releasing plants) nature, is fast spreading in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The alien plants, the report mentioned, invading local vegetation in Pakistan include Brossentia papyrifera (found in Islamabad Capital territory),
Parthenium hysterophorus (found in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces), Prosopis juliflora (found all over Pakistan), Eucalyptus camaldulensis (found in Punjab and Sindh provinces), Salvinia (aquatic plant widely distributed in water bodies in Sindh), Cannabis sativa (found in Islamabad Capital Territory), Lantana camara and Xanthium strumarium (found in upper Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces).
Hale explains: 'After trials on related plant species within the Asteraceae family it soon became apparent that Tanacetum
parthenium - feverfew - provided the optimum levels of parthenolide.'

These last two localities included plain area covered with spiny bush vegetation including Senegalia modesta, Broussonetia papyrifera and
Parthenium hysterophorus.
Alien invasive plants include Paper mulberry, Lantana camara and
Parthenium species.
Parthenium hysterophorus is one of the commonest positive pollen allergen in India (11.17%) (Table 5).
