We examined the effect of concentration of sugar solutions on sugar-type preferences of the speckled
mousebird (Colius striatus), a common African nonpasserine that occasionally feeds on floral nectar.
In previous research conducted by Glenny on birds belonging to the family Fringillidae (1942b), order Coliiformes (
mousebirds) (1944) and genus Parus (tits) (1945b), it was determined that these species were unicarotid and possessed a permanent left carotid artery.
The stunning green bird has settled in well with the other bird inhabitants including Rosey Bourkes, Cockatiels,
Mousebirds, Green Ring-necked Paraquets and the flightless Chinese Painted Quails.
