The white shark Carcharodon carcharias (Linnaeus, 1758) is one of the five living species of the family
Lamnidae (Compagno, 2001).
The porbeagle (Lamna nasus), a pelagic shark in the family
Lamnidae, inhabits the cold temperate waters of the North and South Atlantic, South Pacific, and southern Indian Oceans as well as the subantarctic region of the Southern Ocean (Castro, 2011).
Se clasifica bien como Carcharodon megalodon (bajo la familia
Lamnidae), o bien como Carcharocles megalodon (bajo la familia Otodontidae) (Pimiento et al., 2010).
