Heptone

Kirkheaton, which has also been known as Yetton, Heton and Heptone over the years, is today a mixture of homes dating from the 18th to the 20th century.

The 1978 movie stars Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace and Richard "Dirty Harry" Hall, with musical performances by Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Third World, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller, Gregory Isaacs, Kiddus I, Junior Murvin, Inner Circle, the Heptones and Abyssinians.

He had a particularly hot streak in the early 70s when, at his Black Ark studio in Kingston, he recorded acts like Bob Marley & the Wailers, Max Romeo, the Heptones, the Congos and more.

His legacy also includes a host of classic reggae albums - War Ina Babylon (Max Romeo), Heart of the Congos (The Congos), Police and Thieves (Junior Murvin) and Party Time (The Heptones).

It's always an honour to have such a musical giant in our city, especially when you think of just some of the names he has worked with, including Bob Marley and The Wailers, Max Romeo, The Heptones, George Faith and Junior Murvin and his unforgettable Police and Thieves track, famously covered by The Clash.

In addition to his own trailblazing music, Lee Perry has produced hits for the Wailers, Junior Byles, Max Romeo, the Heptones, Gregory Isaacs, Junior Murvin, and the Clash.

Entertainment comes from Leroy Sibbles, former frontman for the Heptones, plus Ken Boothe, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Queen Ifrica and Gyptian.

Over these two years, Kim took iconic photographs of the artists who brought the reggae sound to the international stage, including Bunny Wailer, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Peter Tosh, Max Romeo, Augustus Pablo, Burning Spear, Toots Hibbert, The Heptones and of course Bob Marley.

In 1973, Perry built a studio in his back yard, The Black Ark, to have more control over his productions and continued to produce notable musicians such as Bob Marley & the Wailers, Junior Byles, The Heptones, and Max Romeo.

He played me the Heptones, who were big then, and I loved it.

This is Kingston's longest running dance, and it is famously, specifically cool--cool like the Heptones sang "Rasta Cool" in 76, cool like the Wallers on "Old Grey Whistle Test" in 73.
