For example, in the First Branch of the Mabinogion, the main character - Pwyll - switches place and physical appearance for one year with another man, Arawn. For 12 months, Arawn's wife does not realise that she is living and sharing a bed with a stranger; Pwyll, out of courtesy, leaves her well alone, refusing to touch her for the entire year.

It is only when Arawn returns home that he explains to his wife what has happened.
