The High Court yesterday started delivering judgment on appeals along with death references in the Jail Killings Case, closing legal arguments from both sides.
Four national leaders--Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman-- were gunned down by a cabal of army men inside Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975.
A designated death-reference division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury and Justice M Ataur Rahman Khan started delivering the judgment after 2:00pm.
On October 20, 2004, the trial court sentenced three--Risalder (retd) Muslemuddin, Dafadar (dismissed) Marfat Ali Shah and Dafadar (dismissed) Abul Hashem Mridha-- to death and awarded life imprisonment to 12 mid-level army officers for the killing.
It had acquitted four politicians and an army officer of the killings charges.
