Statcounter provides customisable hit counters, visitor tracking, web analytics and website stats for WordPress.org (I pay for the hosting).

  1. Sign up for an account at Statcounter to get your code.

    These instructions will be repeated after you've created an account and added your first project.

    Already a member?

  2. Log in to your WordPress admin area and go to 'Plugins> Add New'
  3. Search for 'Statcounter'. The first result should be 'Statcounter - Free Real Time Visitor Stats'
  4. Click 'Install Now' button for statcounter plugin
    Depending on your installation, you may have to enter your FTP login details
  5. Click 'Activate Plugin'
  6. Go to 'Settings> Statcounter' and enter your project id and your security code and hit 'Update Options'
  7. If your Wordpress has a cache you should clear it - this option is often in the top menu bar inside Wordpress
