Link Bookmarklets

These bookmarklets let you quickly search, open, or list links on whatever page you're viewing.

(To keep bookmarklets in order to use them on other web pages, drag them to your Bookmarks Toolbar. Or, install them all at once.)

Browsers: IE is Internet Explorer for Windows, Moz is Netscape 7 or Mozilla, NS4 is Netscape 4, and Op7 is Opera.

Details

(IE, Moz, NS4, Op7)

Lists all links on the page containing the specified text.

Prompts for a string (word or phrase), and then lists links on the page that contain that string in a new window. The string may appear in the link's target url or in its anchor text. If you leave the prompt blank, all links on the page will be listed.

Opera/NS4: the text of the link won't be shown or searched (only the URL will be).

(IE, Moz, NS4, Op7)

Opens a window showing all images linked to from the current page.

Use this on a page or directory listing where many of the links are links to images, such as http://dmoz.org/images/moz/.

Opera 6 bug: to load the images after running the bookmarklet, press G three times. (Bug 46513)

(IE, Moz, Op7)

Opens a window showing all pages linked to from the current page.

An example of where this is useful is the Tiny Sepuku page.

(IE, Moz)

Hides visited links.

Especially useful on pages with lots of image links, because it's often hard to tell whether an image link is visited.

Note that some people, including me, consider it a privacy hole that sites are able to determine whether a link is visited. This bookmarklet will probably stop working when that bug is fixed, and will have to be converted into a browser extension.

Colors internal links red, external links blue, and in-page links orange.

Based on a simpler bookmarklet by Steve Kangas.

Opens each link on the page in a new window.

Opens each link within the selection in a new window.

If you don't select anything or if you're not using Mozilla, all links on the page will be opened instead of just the selected links.

Makes links open in one new window.

Changes redirecting links to go directly to the "real" target.

This bookmarklet uses two methods to determine the "real" target of a link.

• If the link URL contains another URL, as in http://example.com/redir.cgi?to=http://example.net/, the link becomes a link to http://example.net/.
• If the link has a mouseover effect, and the mouseover effect puts something in the status bar that looks like a full URL, the link gets that URL.

Changes the text of links to match their hrefs.

Changes the text of links to match their absolute urls.
