SEL Society for European Lepidopterology

The Society for European Lepidopterology is the European society for the study of moths and butterflies and for the conservation of these insects and their natural habitats.

The society was founded in 1976 with the aims of promoting collaboration among the lepidopterists of Europe, Western Asia and North Africa, and of promoting conservation of Lepidoptera and their habitats, as stated in the society's statutes in English , French and German .

The Society for European Lepidopterology promotes research in lepidopterology and dissemination of the findings therefrom primarily through the arrangement of biennial congresses and through the publication of the scientific journal Nota lepidopterologica. Its strong point is the collaboration between amateurs and professional researchers.

A newsletter, ‘SELepidoptera News’ serves the communication within the society.

The Council of the Society for European Lepidopterology is elected by the members of the society at the General Meetings, which take place during the European Congresses of Lepidopterology.

Members receive our journal, Nota lepidopterologica and the SELepidoptera newsletter as well as eventual Lists of Members, and are entitled to register for participation at the biennial European Congresses of Lepidopterologyat a lower fee.
