SCOUG OS/2 For You - December 1996

Specific to Warp 4 - A Kill Process Option
but, use with caution!

thanks to Gary Wong and the San Diego OS/2 User Group

For those of you who occasionally need a "Process Kill" utility, there's actually one hidden in the OS/2 Warp 4 WarpCenter. You will be able to use the WarpCenter to kill processes if you add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS:

SET KILLFEATUREENABLED=ON

Normally when you click on the Window List in the WarpCenter, you get the traditional list of everything you have that's open. In this mode, the Window List looks like:

Alternatively, with the kill process command in your CONFIG.SYS, if you also hold down the Ctrl key when you click on the WarpCenter Window List button, you will see a complete list of Warp's processes. If you pick one of the processes from the list, the WarpCenter will kill it for you - after you OK a confirmation dialog.

No doubt, there will be occasions when this ability will come in handy. But use it carefully. You'll note from looking at the example list to the left that it is not clear what program a particular process belongs to.
