SCOUG OS/2 For You - November 1996
Connect the World a Success!
by Rollin White
By all accounts, Connect the World with Merlin (Warp 4) was a success!
As many of you know, we were able to cover all five local Frys stores. We
had 35 volunteers promoting OS/2 and its capabilities including VoiceType,
Internet tools, and its strong multimedia capabilities.
In Northern California, volunteers covered all of the Frys up there as
well. And all across the country - and around the world - on Oct. 26th
there were literally hundreds of demonstration sites.
Lots of people stopped by to find out what Warp 4 is all about. Exact
sales numbers are not available. But conservative estimates are that we
prompted the immediate sales of more than 100 copies of OS/2 in Southern
California.
Equally exciting was the interest the store staffs had in OS/2. They
were hungry for knowledge about OS/2 and quite impressed by the VoiceType
capabilities among other things. Hopefully, we also corrected some of the
misinformation about OS/2 that has come from Frys in the past.
We plan to use the lessons learned from this event to help in other
in-store demos throughout the Winter. If there is a store you think would
be a good candidate, by all means let me know. We've got the world
connected - let's keep it going!
