Player-coach Des Tyson has emerged as a possible candidate for a Hong Kong Davis Cup spot after he was named in the doubles team for this month's Marlboro Championships.
Tyson, a former coach at the Hong Kong Sports Institute who quit to revive his playing career, and Christopher Lai will take part in the doubles, alongside seven other international pairs.
Australian-born Tyson, formerly coach of Hong Kong's Tang Min, is eligible to represent Hong Kong in the Davis Cup.
He proved himself one of the territory's top players by winning the national singles title nine months ago.
More recently, he won both singles and doubles titles at a satellite event in China.
The Hong Kong Tennis Association has confirmed that Tyson, who has been in Hong Kong for three years, is eligible to be picked for the territory's Davis Cup team.
