Sony, here are five things you can do to make PSP better

PSP news is sounding rather bleak lately -- but why should it stay this way? Hey Sony, here's five things we think you can do to make the system better for you and better for us. With these steps, we think you'll reduce piracy, increase the amount of games and features we want, and make PSP a better, more lovable place for developers. Best of all: none of these features require a hardware reboot. Imagine, a world where PSPs of all creeds, from 1000 to 3000 can access the same benefits. We believe it can happen.

PSP Brite may lead Sony's fight against piracy, homebrew

Posted Aug 27th 2008 11:30AM by Andrew Yoon
Filed under: Fan Stuff

While many argue that the homebrew community offers PSP owners a wealth of content that doesn't hurt games developers, Sony would disagree. The staggering amount of piracy on the system has created a situation where even cheap, high-profile games like Patapon are downloaded illegally far more than actually purchased. In spite of terrific hardware sales, software simply hasn't performed well, especially outside of Japan. With developers and publishers reluctant to create new content on a system that never breaks NPD's software top 10 charts, Sony had to change something ... and fast.

Kris Erickson of PSP World postulates that the speed in which Sony has upgraded its PSP hardware from the popular PSP-2000 series may be indicative of a new plan to combat piracy and homebrew. While the brighter screen is appreciated, it seems like too little to warrant yet another reboot of the hardware -- that is, unless something internal has changed. The new PSP-Brite system may have better hardware measures against piracy -- a direction foretold by SCEE boss David Reeves not too long ago.

However, the incredibly dedicated homebrew community -- whether or not they understand their responsibility in creating the current drought of PSP games -- will undeniably continue to hack the new PSP to find new exploits. Unfortunately for Sony, backwards compatability with old PSP firmware and software will continue to work as a Trojan horse against the company.

Monster Hunter set to make more money with new products

"Monsuteru Hanteru" really must be Japanese words for "fast cash" because the series has been exactly that for Capcom. The Monster Hunter series is sure successful, and what do you do with successful franchises? You milk them until the teats start bleeding colored paper with funny looking people and numbers on them.

In line with this, Capcom is releasing more products in its Monster Hunter kitchen line with: a coffee tumbler (1,365円 - 13ドル), sack bag (840円 - 8ドル), coffee mug (945円 - 9ドル), and hand towels (525円 - 5ドル). The kitchen line products as well as beach sandals (2,100円 - 20ドル), and key covers (525円 - 5ドル) will be available August 14. You can find all of these at Capcom's online store. Go ahead and splurge, and while you're at it, pick us up some ramen!

Show off your cool Monster Hunter self with this shirt

Hey, we all know how playing Monster Hunter can make you into a "chick magnet" by just playing it. But, how about wearing it? Yeah, wear the pride of being a Monster Hunter with this polo shirt available at Play-Asia. You too can join the "Hunter Club" with this official club shirt which proudly states membership started since 2004 (when the series began).

The shirts come in available sizes M, L, and XL with a price tag of 39ドル.90 plus shipping. While the shirt looks pretty cool, perhaps it won't make you that much more of a lady's man. You'll perhaps have to pick up some Monster Hunter plushies for that.

Ad: PSP makes being arrested so much more fun

We love the construction of this ad for the PSP created by TBWA Espana, Madrid, Spain. Two police offers are apprehending this young man, and instead of handcuffs, they use the ever-engrossing PSP. It's a subtle ad that may not sell the system's capabilities, but does a great job of emphasizing how cool the device is.

[Thanks, Karsten!]

Sony E3 press conference bingo results are in

It's a shame that we didn't get bingo. We were so close, too. If only the PSP had trophies, then we would've been set to win. Alas, it didn't happen. We guessed wrong on the new SKU; it turns out that there's a new 80GB SKU at 400ドル. We were also looking forward to a new PS3 controller or maybe some new PSP colors, but those things didn't happen. Anyway, we did all right with nine out of 25. Really, that's not too bad. Check out the results for Microsoft and Nintendo. Who do you think did best?

Reminder: Don't forget to play bingo with us!

'Porn pink' PSP used to sell PC eroge title

Posted Jun 27th 2008 10:30AM by Majed Athab
Filed under: Imports, Fan Stuff

This is all a bit bizarre. Game retailer Toranoana in Akihabara, Tokyo's destination for things electronic, has a display set up within its shop with a "porn pink" PSP. It's got stickers and designs all for promotion of the PC eroge title Dokodemo suki shite itsudemo suki shite ("Love me wherever, Love me whenever").

With a name like that, it is a wonder why this title isn't on the PSP. You know, love wherever ... whenever ... sounds befitting. Anyway, this game isn't really for the PSP -- it's only on there for display purposes. We guess it's cheaper and space-saving to run a demo on a PSP than a PC.
