Efforts in international standardization
Based on the results of R&D in broadcast media technology, STRL is advancing the international standardization of various technologies through organizations such as ITU-R (International Telecommunication Union, Radiocommunication Sector), SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers), and W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).
By establishing the system developed by NHK as an internationally common standard, STRL aims to achieve low-cost broadcast media equipment, fostering practical applications and the global expansion of content.
Contributing to society
NHK has conducted extensive R&D on broadcast media technology and holds numerous patents and proprietary knowledge. STRL is working to make these technologies accessible not only in broadcasting-related fields but also across various sectors, including medicine and education.
