OBIT: IAN RAMDIAL (1936-2025) Ian passed away yesterday March 17, in a specialised care unit in Simcoe, Ontario. Ian taught at Naps for several years after university graduation abroad; after which he and his wife Merle emigrated to Canada (Toronto area) and both were a central part of the Naparima Alumni Association in Canada (NAAC) for decades.
"I knew Ian well. We used to live in the same street and I also knew his younger sister Margaret with whom I played tennis at Susumachar. I remember playing cricket with him for Naps. He was an undergrad teacher then, prior to his leaving for Canada. What a gentle, most intelligent, modest man and dare I say an inspired teacher."
— Junior YaminAli, (Wales)
"Ian was our Form Master in my first year at Naps - 2AS 1957. He also taught Math. When he heard the town boys call us country bookies, he spoke about how we can overcome the stigma by doing better than the town boys. I did. We did. He made me the class prefect. .... He took me to the bookstore with my booklist and showed me how to get everything I needed for free, because I was the Island Bursary winner. He was an incredible introduction to Naps for me personally. Quite like a bigger brother."
— Rab Maharaj
