AR: Attack: Expand on, 0% Release: 15%
Glide: medium amount
Oscillators: 20% pulse; tuned in mid range so that they are in unison when second "C" on keyboard is played.
The playing here should be very legato. Another "drone" oscillator would probably help, perhaps a fifth up.

This patch produces an imitation of the popular Mu-tron Bi-Phase.
The input is preferably "Thick" — multi-track brass or strings, although funky bass lines work well, too.
Settings:
Both filters - Q to suit.
Initial frequency of Low Pass Must be slightly lower than that of high Pass but within one octave.
Set Bias to prevent Lock-up and/or Set sweep range.
LEO Frequency and Level to suit.

AR: both outputs 5v.
Bias: -2.5v.
Any patch into the balanced modulator can be used. AR settings are variable. A setting which produces this output: [simple ADSR envelope response] produces this envelope: [extra attack and release stage envelope].

This patch gives the distinctive "Eventide" cancellation used by Isao Tomita. It works best on "Thick" sounds - multi-track Brass, String Ensembles, or noise.

Accent: To suit - minimum best

Speed/Span/Center: Adjust the desired effect as though using a single phlanger
Inverter: use 0db input
Mixer: adjust input levels for best cancellation
Pan to suit, but Both inputs MUST be the same
SEQUENCER - SPEED - 60%
- 12 stage recirculation
- Alternate high and low stage settings, no glide
- 50% step trig, out
VCO - Pulse out 50% duty
AR - Attack 0%, Decay 0%, Expand off, 5vp-p
LFO - 1Hz, 5vp-p

While somewhat more involved than Gary Bannister's patch in Polyphony 1/76, this patch has a nice metallic sound which I like and sounds good even down at the low end of the keyboard.

Can you provide audio examples and/or preset files for any of the patches in this article? More Info
For all the patch charts published in these magazines, we'd like to get audio demos, and if possible, sysex files, or plugin presets, so users can easily preview the patches alongside the chart and download them for their synths, without having to transcribe them first.
So, it would be helpful for the hardware we don't own, if others could transcribe some patches, and create a short audio demo of the patch, and if possible, sysex and/or plugin preset files for those patches, and upload them using the form on the articles featuring those patches.
Audio previews:
Max 4MB, preferably 5-20 secs in length, MP3 format only. You can make previews using the original hardware, and/or plugin emulations. Let us know what they are in the comments of your upload.
Sysex files:
Zipped *.syx files, containing just the patch entry (or entries) for one patch listing.
Plugin presets:
Many synths have plugin emulations which can recreate or import sounds from the hardware. Zip up a file of the formats you can generate, and let us know which instruments they are for in the comments of your upload. Host/DAW files such as FXB/FXP and AUpreset are fine, as are proprietry file formats for particular plugins. The more formats we can provide, the more useful the files are. If you can just download some patches and create some formats we don't already have and upload them, that's also helpful.
We'll be transcribing and providing what we can, but we'd be grateful for people who'd like to help with this - thanks!
