THE 'OCEANS'

The 'Ocean' type ships consisted of 60 vessels built in the U.S.A for the British Ministry of War Transport from late 1941 until America entered the war. These were all of one type with a welded hull, nominal gross tonnage of 7,174 tons, length 416ft x beam 57.0ft and powered by coal fired boilers to give a speed of 11 knots. 16 ot these ships were lost to enemy action and the remainder sold to private companies after the war..
