Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS) Official Web Site

The METS schema is a standard test for encoding descriptive, administrative, and structural metadata regarding objects within a digital library, expressed using the XML schema language of the World Wide Web Consortium. The standard is maintained by the METS Board in collaboration with the Network Development and MARC Standards Office of the Library of Congress and started as an initiative of the Digital Library Federation.

METS 2 Schema Update: The latest version of the METS 2 Schema is available on the schema and documentation page. The change log is available in the schema itself in XML Schema documentation elements at the top of the schema. The METS 1 Schema is also available.

METS 2 Schema Now Available (March 3, 2025) A new and simplified version of METS has been released in its initial version.
