This monograph is the result of a doctoral degree from L’École du Louvre, supervised by Guilhem Scherf, conservateur en chef in the Département des Sculptures in the Louvre, and examined in 1999 in Paris before the director of research and François Souchal, professor emeritus in Paris-X Nanterre.
