The by far most unimaginative thing to do on the WWW is to set up a page with lists of links. Unless the lists are really outstanding, they add nothing of value and serve only to confuse people who regularly use search engines to find what they want. Instead of the sites of interest, they get hundreds of pages with link lists -- of which the majority just point to other pages with link lists.

So does that mean I'll be trying something new and different on this page? Nope. I just wanted to make it clear that I'm aware of the problem. Now let's get on with it ...

• Sun's Java Site -- well, they invented the language.
• Gamelan -- the official directory for Java.
• The Java Tutorial -- an OK online tutorial with plenty of program examples and "live" demonstrations.
• Java 1.0.2 -- original Java, if you want complete backwards compatibility.
• J2SE 5.0 -- modern Java.
• Java FAQ -- lots of information.

• Akatora.se has a wide variety of mobile phone games written by Mikael Tillander.
• Spogg is a complete multi-player Java game community created from scratch by Viktor Lidholt and Ville Hansson. Non-violent games only.

• Computer History and Emulation Homepage -- lots of emulators for lots of machines.
• MAME -- Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, runs a couple of hundred classic games like Pacman, Centipede, Donkey Kong, Frogger... almost exactly like the originals.
• Arnold -- huge archive with Commodore 64 games.
• The C64 Game Guide -- screen shots of hundreds of Commodore 64 games, with descriptions.
• Java ZX Spectrum Emulator -- what'll they think of next?
• Java Commodore 64 emulator -- an impressive piece of software engineering by Joakim Eriksson.
