Mandrake Linux 9.1/PPC is out!

Goodbye CRT iMac

Today Apple removed the remaining CRT iMac configuration from their on-line store. The iMac was originally launched in 1998, and after 5 years, they have finally put the G3/CRT iMacs to rest. The eMac makes a good replacement for the CRT based iMac, and of course we still have the iMac G4s!! CNet have put together a nice article which you can read here.

Mandrake PPC 9.1 Beta 2 - Mandrake Linux for the Rest of Us

For the last few weeks I have been reporting on the development cycle of Mandrake 9.1. Then, the presence of an ISO image for Mandrake PPC 9.1 Beta 1 piqued my curiosity, and some days later two ISO images for Mandrake PPC 9.1 Beta 2 were made available on the various mandrake mirrors. Among my obsol... err, I mean, my old computers, I have a 350 MHz iMac which hasn't seen much use for the last 8 months. So without any extraordinary expectations, I decided to attempt the installation of this different flavour of Mandrake Linux. I was in for a few good surprises...

RPMinator

You might remember me as the guy who created MacRPM (MacOS utility to extract files from RPM pacakges) a couple of years back. Well, now I've gone and done it again, except this time it's for MacOS X. The new app is called RPMinator. I've just released version 1.0, which has rather basic features.
It's a SourceForge project (http://rpminator.sourceforge.net) and I'm looking for help if anybody is interested. The RPM UNIX application has already been ported to MacOS X. What I'm hoping to do now is create a first-class RPM GUI tool in Carbon.
