Paul Rudd will star as Scott Lang, who was the second Ant-Man in the Marvel comic books. Douglas’ Pym was the first to bear that name in the comics (and possibly in the movie as well). Wright, who co-wrote the film with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), hinted on Twitter yesterday that Ant-Man could flash-back to the 1960s at some point to depict a younger Pym in action... though Pena doesn’t really seem like a young Michael Douglas, does he?Ant-Man will be released on July 31, 2015.
Update #1: The Hollywood Reporter has slightly more info on what could be Pena's role, saying that "Marvel had been on the lookout for what insiders describe as a 'tough Latino' who has to be ready for a lot of physical play. The studio looked at actors ranging from Javier Bardem to Clifton Collins Jr."
Update #2: This is Infamous claims Pena is playing "Castillo," a Latin American dictator in the vein of Fidel Castro: "Castillo will be the film’s villain in the beginning, which takes place in the 1960s. It is here that we’ll get our introduction to Ant-Man – the Hank Pym version – which Marvel readers will get from the character’s work as a spy fighting against Communism. From there, Ant-Man will move into the modern era, with a an aging Pym, recently filled by Michael Douglas, and the beginning of the Scott Lang story arc, which will eventually get Scott Lang in as Ant-Man. Lang will encounter this second villain along the way, who will serve as his primary villain, but what we’re hearing is that Peña will wind up playing a larger role as the film develops, much more than just the opening to establish Ant-Man."
