Story
Trimurtulu
(Hari Krishna) is the village head and a carodpati.
His brother-in-law is Krishna Rao (Krishna) who stays
in a small house in front of Trimurtulu's mansion. They
decide to marry Trimurtulu's son Sambasiva Rao (Karthikeya)
off to Krishna Rao's daughter Mahalakshmi (Gajala).
Sambasiva and Mahalakshmi are in love. A few days before
marriage, Sambasiva tells his mom that he is in love
with a Telangana girl called Kavita Reddy (Kalyani).
The rest of the story is all about how all ends well.
Artists Performance
Heroes: Krishna's character is the best character in this film. He did the role of ever-smiling 'fitting master', who enjoys making others lives miserable by his wily deeds. Hari Krishna is in his regular get-up of big mustache and did well with in the limitations of the character. Nagababu is casual in a comedy-oriented role. His comedy in his intro scene is cool. Debutant Karthikeya is raw and his dialogue delivery is artificial.
Heroines: Gajala is adequate in a small role. Jyothi and Keerti Chawla do not have much to play. Kalyani did the role of a Telangana girl. She is OK. Suhasini came in a flashback song with deglamorized get-up. Vijaya Nirmala is good. Bhanu Priya is OK.
Others: Jhansi did a good job in the role of a Dobhi. Posani Krishna Murali reserved a meaty comedy role for himself. The 9-comedian group failed to evoke any humor as they do not have any meaning roles to play. Kota Srinivasa Rao is good with his trademark Telangana dialect. Tanikella Bharani did the role of a purohit.
Technical Departments:
Story: Posani Krishna Murali has the occupational hazard of mixing politics in his stories whether required or not. The same hazard has ruined the story of the film. The connection between the love and politics is totally irrelevant. Story of the film is pretty weak.
Screenplay - direction: Screnplay by Posani Krishna Murali is lethargic. Direction leaves a lot to be desired. The narration is uninteresting and there is no clarity in it. Director has no grip over the proceedings and there is no timing in comedy scenes.
Other departments: Music by Vandemataram Srinivas is a plus point. It is nice to observe that all songs in this film are sung by SP Bala Subramanyam. But the picturization is not up to the mark. Camerawork by V Jayaram is shoddy. Too many movements by camera while canning simple scenes and lack of proper lighting schemes made this film appear dull and unexciting on the screen. Dialogues by Marudhuri Raja are mediocre. Production values are low.
Analysis: First half of the film is mediocre. Second half is terrible. The only plus point of the film is music by Vandemataram Srinivas. This film is also a clean film sans vulgarity. Sravanamasam badly suffers from weak story, bad screenplay, poor narration and frail camerawork. Posani Krishna Murali did not do justice for having 60 actors in this film as most of them (including a couple of heroines) are wasted in this film. In a nut shell, Sravanamasam is an utterly disappointing film.
