"Watching birds from Porthgwarra in Cornwall, I followed a pod of Risso痴 Dolphins, Grampus griseus , moving west. After they were lost to view, I was still searching through my scope when a large fish jumped out of the sea in the middle of my view. The view was for about a second but I noted the following: about two metres long and powerful looking, large rayed dorsal fin along its back, strikingly melon-shaped, with a blunt forehead. This looks like a Dolphinfish, Coryphaena hippurus ." This worldwide tropical fish has not been definitely recorded in British seas before. There was an unconfirmed previous sighting in the Camel estuary, Cornwall on 1 August 2000.Report by Rick Goater
