Musician. Karl Farr was an American country and swing guitarist, professionally playing guitar for "the Sons of the Pioneers," a country swing group that was popular in the 1930s to 1950s. He joined the band early, when the group's name was still "Pioneer Trio." Coming from a musical family, he was proficient on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and drums. His younger brother Hugh joined the Sons of the Pioneers in 1935. Besides appearing in person on stage, the Sons of the Pioneers appeared in 91 films, yet at times, the band would play in the film in the background uncredited. The band appeared in at least a dozen films with Roy Rogers and his horse Trigger including "Sons of the Pioneers" in 1942 and "Heldorado" in 1946. Their 1935 film "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" was with Gene Autry. They appeared in films with Eddie Albert, Bob Hope, John Wayne, and others. They had a polished stage appearance with cowboy hats, boots and coats decorated with fringes. They wrote many of their hits songs such as "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" in 1935, "Way Out There" in 1937 and "Room Full of Roses" in 1949. He was awarded one of the first Telecasters by Fender in 1949, a Member of the Country Hall of Fame in 1980, Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy, and the Western Heritage Museum as a member of the Sons of the Pioneers.
