Computer engineering (also called computer systems engineering or information and systems science) is a disciple that combines electrical engineering and computer science. Unlike software engineers, which are primarily software driven, computer engineers have a background in electrical and hardware engineering in additional to software design.
Computer science is more theoretical than computer engineering; however many schools lump computer science and computer engineering together in the same department. In addition, electrical engineering is often also included (see article on electrical engineering for more information), resulting in the very-commonly-named department of electrical and computer engineering (ECE).
