Art the Arms Fair 2023

Art the Arms Fair and Demilitarise Education are fiercely proud to present: We Ain’t dED Yet.

With Art the Arms Fair returning for a fourth edition, we will once again expose and oppose the arms fair through art.

The award-winning art exhibition runs from 11-17 September and culminates with a cross-category online auction on Saturday September 16th.

Where: Gallery 46 on 46 Ashfield Street, Whitechapel, E1 2AJ

Opening times:

Monday 11 – Wednesday 13 September, 12.30-7.30pm
Thursday 14 September, 12.30-3pm
Friday 15 – Saturday 16 September, 12.30-7.30pm
Sunday 17 September, 12:30-3pm

All proceeds will support the work of Demilitarise Education in their campaign for universities to sever ties with the global arms trade.

Unfortunately, the venue isn’t step-free or wheelchair accessible. There is a narrow flight of stairs to the gallery space.

We’re thrilled to share our final submission for We’re thrilled to share our final submission for We Ain’t dED Yet, a poignant work on paper by @pierssecunda: "This drawing portrays a shattered tree trunk in the countryside of Ukraine in 2022, at the site of an attack by Ukrainian soldiers against a Russian tank. Attacks like the one I’m describing are defining the nature of Ukraine’s fight - using Western European weapons against Russian heavy armour. The shattered tree trunk is a sight normally associated with the First World War, and is little known to our generation. The charcoal used to make this drawing was gathered by UK journalist Jerome Starkey after a Kharkiv government building was hit by a missile on the 1st of March 2022, representing a significant escalation in Russia’s assault on Ukraine." He is currently a professor at Karlsruhe University of Art and Design. For two decades, he was one half of the critically acclaimed artist duo Broomberg & Chanarin. He is also one of the creators behind artist initiative @artists.allies.hebron Artists + Allies x Hebron is an activist artistic project and an NGO run by Adam Broomberg in Berlin, Germany and Issa Amro @issaamro in Hebron, Palestine, with Hebron as its focal point and olive trees as its subject matter.
