"Grrrl/Queer/Feminist Zines": The 8th lecture
memorandum (some part of lecture contents)

In this lecture, we examined the 'inheritances' of the Riot Grrrl movement.

(1) in Electroclash

Le Tigre "Tres Bien" (from Feminist Sweepstakes / Mr. Lady / 2001) [lyrics]

I think this song is the another (supplementary) message of "The Riot Grrrl Manifesto" (1991) ten years later.
In this song, Kathleen Hanna tell girls not to be swayed by the critics and grants (money), and to move forward together.
To put it shortly, this song expresses the significance of the independent/autonomous way of life with mutual support by a friendship and community.
Probably Hanna tried to send this message to old/current grrrls again/afresh. And there is a part that needs to be paid special attention.

Because we refuse to allow our
Writing, songs, art, activism
And political histories to be suppressed or stolen

I think this part means the harmful effects of the 'historicizing' of the Riot Grrrl movement. [cf.]
It showed that Hanna was making desperate efforts to fight back against the historical revisionism and perversion of their results.

(2) Girls Rock Camp
*Girls Rock Camp Alliance
We confirmed the significance of the practice of education to young girls by the Riot Grrrls.
Girls learns the spirit of independence, cooperation and empowerment there.
I think this practice shows that the Riot Grrrl movement can do reproduction by itself autonomously.

The activities that succeeded to the original (Girls Rock Camp's) purpose/mind faithfully are practiced also in Japan.
I pay attention to it's future development.

b) CRY IN PUBLIC [Twitter]
*the alternative space and small press in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.

"Cry in Public" is one of the key phrase of the Riot Grrrl movement.
In this space, various literary practices and activities to create the alternative community are carried out energetically.
It is a notable fact that there is such a case example of practice in a provincial town in Japan.
