KB4KBS SCOTT STRAW Enjoyed the time in E. Alabama activating CLEB, CHOU, ETOW,
MRSH, JKSN, DKLB, & CKEE.
I was saddened and angered that after running on 7220 from 2030 to 2315,
K9YCA (I believe that was the call) decided that he deserved the frequency
more than I did as a "silly contester". He was incensed that I was
interrupting his scheduled get together with his other 9-land buddies and
chastised me for interrupting their "on-going QSO" that started at 2312.
Evidently his crystal-controlled rig couldn't move "up or down 3KHz" like
he wanted me to do. This was really disappointing and deflating,
especially since I had been spotted on the cluster several times at that
frequency. When their leather lungs were finally exhausted I was able to
get another good 45 minute run started before we crossed back over into
Georgia.
I had someone ask why I wasn't down in the 7175-7185 window that was
posted as the place to look for mobiles. 1. Antenna resonance. 2. No
activity. If you find a collection of fixed stations playing in the
party, doesn't it make sense to hang out in that neighborhood too? Why
would I segregate myself from the action?
Will look to be on the air in Alabama again next year on the first
Saturday in June!
