SAD NEWS
Ann and I have just gotten the news that Mike Simanoff, friend, all-around nice guy, and former Ministry editor, has passed away unexpectedly. This has colored an otherwise wonderful experience in Finland with sadness and shock for us today. It has been a little bit difficult to concentrate. I wanted to blog about the great hospitality and experiences here in Finland, but will let others do that for now. It just does not feel right at the moment.

Wow. Talk about a shot to the gut. Mike was a great guy; we used to chat online after he moved away from the east coast. This is so unexpected. Sad news indeed

Oh dear. I never really "knew" Mike, but I certainly loved keeping up with him online. Sad news, for sure.
How very sad. Mike sent me a whole heap of Whittemore articles when he was working in the New York Library and also very generously put together a bibliography of Whittemore related material.
He seemed to me to be a great all-round guy. And he was so young!
My heartfelt condolences to all his friends and family.
Wow. I emailed back and forth with him a few times earlier this summer. I thought I'd be going to Chicago at some point and was going to try to get together, but the trip never happened. I wish I'd gotten to see him.

So sorry to hear you and Ann lost a great friend. Tragic news.
I should have checked your blog sooner - I've emailed you couple times and received no answer, so I was afraid you were abducted by aliens (again). Should have known you were traveling, sans spaceship.
My God. I was wondering what had happened to him, as since late 03 or so he sort of dropped off my radar.
Tragic.
