Watford manager Ray Lewington hopes to tempt Newcastle striker Michael Chopra back to Vicarage Road on loan next season.
Chopra ended his five-game spell with the Hornets this week with a stunning strike in a 2-0 win over Derby.
Lewington hopes to be first in the queue for the striker, who made a big impression during his spell at Vicarage Road.
Chopra scored five goals in his five appearances, four of them coming in the Hornets' 7-4 win at Burnley.
He also tasted the big-game atmosphere of an FA Cup semi-final against Southampton at Villa Park.
Although Chopra has returned to resume his fight for a first-team breakthrough at St James Park, Lewington would be keen if Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson wants the young striker to gain furthe experience.
The Hornets boss said: "Next season if Sir Bobby wants to let him out on loan hopefully he will think of us first. I know he's really enjoyed himself here.
"He's had an experience he wouldn't have believed a month ago having played in an FA Cup semi-final.
"It's early days for him and he needs to learn the game but he will be a good player, no doubt about it."
Chopra, who has managed to get Champions League experience this season, is currently well down the pecking order at St James'.
He is currently behind Alan Shearer, Craig Bellamy, Shola Ameobi, Lomana LuaLua and Carl Cort, but has long been viewed as a genuine prospect for the future.
Lewington said: "He goes back to Newcastle having shown us the sort of finishing which is why he's at a Premiership club.
"It might be another year before he fills out and gains in strength but his finishing has been terrific."
