The NASA/IPAC extragalactic database.

Abstract

The NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED) is a research tool in the form of a central archive which accumulates published data, is organized for fast, flexible retrieval, and is accessible to all astronomers. NED consists of two main components: a computer-based data system supporting an object-oriented view of extragalactic astronomy, and a convenient user-oriented interface providing access to the data. Access is primarily by researchers or librarians who depend on electronic network connections to reach NED at its physical location at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC) on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, California (USA).
