A new extragalactic database.
Abstract
The authors describe a proposed "National Extragalactic Database" that will make available data from extragalactic and other catalogs, as well as data and references from published articles dealing with all extragalactic objects. The Database will reside at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center at Caltech, will be made remotely accessible, and will provide services similar to those offered by SIMBAD. The basic capabilities will be: (1) literature searches, and summaries of published data for objects specified by name; (2) positional searches for all objects in the vicinity of a specified location on the sky; and (3) keyed searches for all objects whose observed parameters satisfy a given set of conditions.
